HI HB2479

Authorizes the Department of Land and Natural Resources to issue permits for taking sand, dead coral or coral rubble, rocks, soil, or other marine deposits seaward from the shoreline for research, education, management, or propagation purposes.

Adds a new exception to the existing prohibition on mining or taking marine deposits, allowing permitted taking for the four specified purposes when authorized by department permits.

Maintains existing exceptions for inadvertent taking, public shoreline replenishment, drainage/stream clearing, state maintenance purposes, traditional cultural practices, and emergency response activities.

Effective date: July 1, 3000.
