Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 802-1(a) to remove the entitlement to public defender representation for indigent persons who are the subject of a petition for assisted community treatment under chapter 334.

Retains public defender representation for indigent persons arrested, charged, or convicted of offenses punishable by jail or prison confinement, threatened with involuntary psychiatric commitment, or subject to involuntary medical treatment petitions.

Renumbers the remaining subsections of Section 802-1(a), with involuntary medical treatment petitions moving from subsection (4) to subsection (3).

Takes effect upon approval.
