HB2725 Summary

• Establishes the Corrections Facilities Authority as a body corporate and public instrumentality to oversee all public corrections development, planning, and construction for capital improvement projects.

• Creates a five-member Corrections Facilities Authority Board appointed by the governor; board must include one member with at least five years in the construction industry and shall oversee all authority projects and evaluate the executive director annually.

• Authorizes the authority to acquire property, enter into public-private partnerships, issue bonds, borrow money, accept grants and gifts, and manage a Corrections Facilities Special Fund for funding corrections development and construction projects.

• Requires the Corrections Facilities Authority to apply for grants and loans from the United States Department of Agriculture's Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program to fund correctional facility or community correctional center development.

• Effective date July 1, 3000.
