HB 57 Summary

• Amends Section 46-13.1 to clarify that volunteer fire station personnel are entitled to workers' compensation benefits under Chapter 386, with average weekly wages computed according to Section 386-181(c)

• Modifies Section 386-181(c) to allow wages of other employees in comparable employment to be considered (changed from "shall not" to "may") when computing average weekly wages for injured volunteer firefighters and similar public volunteers

• Ensures volunteer firefighters, public board members, reserve police officers, and other specified volunteers are guaranteed minimum hourly wage at least equal to the minimum wage prescribed in Chapter 387 when computing workers' compensation benefits

• Takes effect on June 30, 3000
