Students paying resident tuition fees at the John A. Burns School of Medicine must work in Hawaii for at least 5 years within 10 years after graduation.

Students who fail to meet the 5-year work requirement must repay the University of Hawaii the difference between resident and nonresident tuition fees for each year or partial year of non-compliance.

The Board of Regents shall adopt rules under Chapter 91 of Hawaii Revised Statutes to implement this requirement.

The Act takes effect upon approval and does not affect rights, duties, or penalties that existed before the effective date.
