H.B. 927 Summary

• Establishes a future fusion task force within the Hawaii State Energy Office to evaluate fusion energy as a power source for the state.

• Task force shall determine feasibility of amending the Hawaii State Constitution to allow fusion-powered reactors, evaluate potential sites for reactor placement, and identify ways to accelerate fusion development.

• Chief energy officer or designee serves as chair and invites academics, scientists, and futurists with relevant expertise to serve as members.

• Task force must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2025 regular session convenes.

• Task force expires on June 30, 2025.
