Requests the Hawaii Medical Association and Hawaii Psychiatric Medical Association to convene a roundtable to establish medical protocols requiring thyroid function testing before prescribing psychotropic medications for mental illness.

Acknowledges that thyroid conditions can present symptoms similar to mental illness and that individuals have been prescribed psychotropic medications without prior thyroid testing.

Notes that some individuals misdiagnosed with mental illness actually had thyroid conditions, and the psychotropic medications prescribed were either ineffective or potentially harmful.

Identifies thyroid testing as a simple blood test process that can prevent unnecessary or harmful medication prescriptions.

Directs that certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the presidents of both the Hawaii Medical Association and Hawaii Psychiatric Medical Association.
