Department of Education is urged to develop a comprehensive plan for reinstating cancelled school bus service routes across Hawaii.

Plan submission deadline is 20 days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2025, including findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation.

Currently, 10 Oahu high schools and 4 Kauai schools have had bus transportation services completely or partially suspended in the 2023-2024 school year due to school bus driver shortages.

Approximately 12,000 student riders use bus services on Oahu and 13,000 on the neighbor islands, with rural and socioeconomically disadvantaged communities particularly affected by service cancellations.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Education.
