HCR 201 Summary

• Establishes the Legislative Service Agency Candidate Advisory Committee to recruit, evaluate, and nominate candidates for State Auditor, Ombudsman, and Legislative Reference Bureau Director positions.

• Committee membership consists of three Senate members appointed by the President of the Senate, three House members appointed by the Speaker of the House, and a former State Auditor serving as Chair.

• Committee must conduct public search, hold public hearings on finalist nominees, and present one nominee for each position to the Legislature for approval by majority vote in joint session.

• If a nominee fails to receive majority approval from either the committee or Legislature, the committee shall evaluate remaining initial applicants or conduct a new public search until a candidate is nominated and appointed.

• Committee dissolves upon completion of its duties after all three positions are filled.
