S.B. 139 Summary

• Hawaii Public Housing Authority shall conduct a study identifying state-owned lands within one-half mile radius of rail mass transit stations suitable for constructing at least 100,000 housing units, excluding Department of Hawaiian Home Lands properties.

• Authority may contract another entity to conduct the study.

• Authority shall submit findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to the legislature no later than 20 days prior to the 2024 regular session.

• General revenue appropriation provided for fiscal years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 to conduct or contract the study (specific dollar amount not filled in).

• Effective date is July 1, 2050, with appropriations section effective July 1, 2051.
