Extends the time between periodic reviews of pretrial detainees in community correctional centers from every three months to every six months.

Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes section 353-6.2(a) to change the required review frequency while maintaining the requirement to reassess whether detainees should remain in custody or if circumstances warrant reconsideration of pretrial release.

Based on data from October 2021 to July 2022 showing only 10 out of 1,244 reviewed cases (0.8%) resulted in release recommendations and only 3 were granted by courts, indicating minimal results from the current three-month review cycle.

Addresses Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation concerns that frequent ninety-day reviews divert resources from initial bail reports due within three days of admission and other statutory duties.

Takes effect upon approval.
