Department of Education must develop a firearms access prevention and secure storage model notice by September 1, 2024, including information on Hawaii state firearm storage laws (sections 134-9.3 and 134-10.5) and prevention resources, available in English, Hawaiian, and other common languages spoken by students.

All public schools must distribute the notice to parents or guardians at the beginning of the school year or within one week of student enrollment through written format (brochure, letter, email, mail, or other department-approved methods).

Schools and complex areas maintaining websites or social media accounts must publish the notice on those platforms beginning September 1, 2024.

Youth suicide awareness and prevention training program must include information about limiting firearm access and incorporate the firearms access prevention and secure storage notice.

Department of Education, complex areas, and public schools are protected from civil liability for providing or failing to provide the required notice.
