S.B. 2731 Summary

• Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 249-9.2 to authorize special license plates for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars
• Adds Iraq war and Afghanistan war veterans to the list of eligible veterans who may obtain special license plates, joining existing categories including Purple Heart recipients, Pearl Harbor survivors, and Vietnam/Korean/World War II veterans
• Requires Iraq war veterans to display plates with the words "IRAQ VETERAN" and Afghanistan war veterans to display plates with the words "AFGHANISTAN VETERAN"
• Applicants must provide certification from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or the state office of veterans' services that they served in the Iraq or Afghanistan war, along with proof of honorable or general discharge
• Designations shall be imprinted on the left side of license plates in a manner similar to congressional and honorary consul license plates
