SB2735 Summary

• Requires driver's license examination to test applicants' knowledge of dangers that large vehicles (trucks, SUVs) pose to pedestrians and bicyclists, particularly vehicles with hood heights greater than 40 inches which are 45% more likely to kill pedestrians.

• Mandates persons convicted of excessive speeding to retake and pass the driver's license examination as an additional penalty beyond existing fines and license suspension.

• Mandates persons convicted of habitually operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant to retake and pass the driver's license examination as an additional penalty beyond existing imprisonment and revocation requirements.

• Effective July 1, 3000; amendments to the habitually driving under the influence statute shall not be repealed when that section is reenacted on June 30, 2028.
