S.B. 301 Summary

• Amends Act 257, Session Laws of Hawaii 2022 to expand the use of a $200,000,000 appropriation for fiscal year 2022-2023 to include affordable housing for Department of Education teachers in addition to pre-kindergarten expansion.

• Authorizes the School Facilities Authority to use appropriated funds for construction of affordable housing for DOE teachers and renovation, improvement, and expansion of existing affordable housing.

• Authorizes the School Facilities Authority to expend funds on any other costs deemed appropriate to provide affordable housing to department of education teachers.

• Maintains the original appropriation amount of $200,000,000 with funds carried over beyond fiscal year 2022-2023, with all unencumbered moneys lapsing as of June 30, 2024.

• Takes effect upon approval.
