S.B. 384 Summary

• Authorizes each county to adopt ordinances to enforce the design and construction requirements for accessible parking spaces reserved for persons with disabilities under Hawaii Revised Statutes Part III of Chapter 291.

• Allows counties to establish penalties for failure to comply with county ordinances on accessible parking space requirements, including number, location, design, and signage.

• Permits county-appointed officials to enter the property of places of public accommodation to enforce violations of the county ordinances.

• Removes the previous civil action requirement and lack of enforcement authority that has prevented the statute from being enforced since its July 1, 2002 effective date.

• Takes effect on June 30, 3000.
