Governor must appoint the oversight coordinator for the Hawaii Correctional System Oversight Commission with advice and consent of the senate, selecting from three nominees submitted by the commission.

Oversight coordinator term extends from two years to four years for all appointees made after January 1, 2050.

Commission gains explicit authority to hold closed executive meetings and take measures to maintain confidentiality of investigations, including protecting identities of complainants and witnesses.

Commission shall work with the Department of Public Safety to monitor offender reentry programs and ensure the comprehensive reentry system provides timely inmate releases when minimum sentences are served.

Oversight coordinator's authority expands to make inquiries, obtain information, and inspect correctional facility premises both during and outside of formal investigations.
