• Encourages developers to incorporate net zero water building strategies when constructing and renovating housing projects in Hawaii.

• Defines net zero water housing as projects designed to minimize total water consumption, maximize alternative water sources, and minimize wastewater discharge by returning water to original water sources such as aquifers.

• Identifies net zero water strategies including innovative water-efficient technologies, alternative water source production, on-site wastewater treatment and reuse, wastewater injection into original water supplies, and green infrastructure for stormwater infiltration.

• Directs transmission of certified copies to the Governor, Executive Director of the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation, and Executive Director of the Hawaii Public Housing Authority.

• States net zero water housing would reduce impact on aquifers and water reclamation infrastructure, decrease pollution runoff, and conserve water resources in the state.
