Requests the State Auditor to conduct an audit of the Department of Education's statewide backlog of capital improvement repair and maintenance projects

Department of Education is responsible for 4,425 buildings statewide covering more than 20 million square feet, with approximately 20% of public schools over 100 years old and an average building age of 72 years

The repair and maintenance backlog has increased from $293 million (reported January 2018) to $868 million (later corrected figure) to over $1.4 billion currently, with more than 4,600 projects needed

Auditor is directed to include projects relating to renovation of central, district, and program offices in the audit

Auditor must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the Regular Session of 2025
