Appropriates $200,000 for fiscal year 2025-2026 and $200,000 for fiscal year 2026-2027 from general revenues to the Department of Land and Natural Resources for majano anemone removal efforts in Kaneohe Bay.

Majano anemone (Anemonia majano) is an invasive species detected in Kaneohe Bay that has spread across approximately 950 square yards and threatens the endemic finger coral Porites compressa and the reef ecosystem.

Funds will support the Division of Aquatic Resources' multi-phase removal strategy including chemical control, physical removal, smothering practices, personnel, materials, equipment, data management, and community outreach.

The majano anemone poses significant threats to coral reef health, fish habitat, marine biodiversity, and coastal ecosystem services due to its rapid growth, aggressive competition for space, and ability to smother native coral species.

Takes effect July 1, 2025.
