H.B. 72 Summary

• Beginning January 1, 2026, pharmacy technicians must obtain a certificate of registration from the Board of Pharmacy and cannot perform pharmacy technician duties without one.

• Certificates of registration are valid through December 31 of odd-numbered years and must be renewed biennially; pharmacies may only employ registered pharmacy technicians.

• Pharmacists-in-charge must verify technician registration before they perform tasks and are responsible for their actions; supervising registered pharmacists must report violations to the Board within ten days or immediately if public health is at risk.

• Defines "registered pharmacy technician," "auxiliary pharmacy personnel," and "supervision" in statute; registered pharmacy technicians may perform filling, packaging, manipulative, and repetitive tasks only under pharmacist supervision.

• Grants the Board of Pharmacy authority to issue certificates of registration, suspend or revoke registrations, and establishes disciplinary grounds for violations by registered pharmacy technicians.
