H.B. 872 - Single-Use Epinephrine Supply Authorization

• Authorizes health care practitioners to prescribe single-use epinephrine in the name of the State, counties, public schools, and authorized private entities (agricultural businesses, churches, daycare centers, hotels, restaurants, corporate offices, and others approved by the department) to maintain emergency supplies.

• Permits employees, agents, and other trained individuals to provide or administer stocked epinephrine to any person believed to be experiencing anaphylaxis, regardless of whether they have a prescription or prior allergy diagnosis.

• Requires employees and agents administering epinephrine to receive training by a practitioner, registered nurse, or nationally recognized organization, with refresher training required at least every two years.

• Provides liability immunity for departments, agencies, entities, practitioners, and pharmacists involved in prescribing, dispensing, or administering single-use epinephrine, except for acts constituting willful or wanton misconduct.

• Requires authorized entities to report all epinephrine administrations to the department, which will publish annual summaries; department must establish storage and maintenance requirements by rule.
