S.B. 1244 Summary

• Allows counties to use general excise and fuel tax revenues for maintenance and reconstruction of privately-owned roadways that are open to and used by the public.

• Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 46-16.8 to add private roadways open to the public as an eligible use of county surcharge revenues for counties with populations of 500,000 or less.

• Modifies Section 243-6 to authorize county fuel tax expenditures for acquisition, design, construction, improvement, repair, and maintenance of private roadways open to the public, as well as traffic control and safety on such roadways.

• Effective July 1, 2050.
