S.B. 1276 Summary

• Extends the offense of false labeling of Hawaii-grown coffee to include roasted coffee, in addition to existing coverage of green coffee, cherry coffee, and parchment coffee.

• Establishes that false labeling of Hawaii-grown coffee with regard to geographic origin is a class C felony.

• Imposes a mandatory $10,000 fine for each separate offense of false labeling of Hawaii-grown coffee, which cannot be suspended or waived.

• Applies to persons who knowingly transport, distribute, advertise, sell, or possess with intent to sell falsely labeled Hawaii-grown coffee.

• Takes effect on July 1, 3000.
