HI SB1421

Repeals the requirement for the Department of Health to approve health care providers' arrangements for retention and preservation of patients' medical records before ceasing operations.

Requires medical records retention to be consistent with federal and state regulations rather than subject to departmental approval.

Mandates that providers notify patients at their last known address about how to access or request copies of their medical records before ceasing operations.

Maintains existing retention requirements: 25 years after the last entry for adults, and during minority plus 25 years after reaching age of majority for minors.

Takes effect July 1, 3000.
