HI SB15

Amends the definition of "historic property" in Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 6E-2 to require properties be over fifty years old AND meet criteria for inclusion in the Hawaii Register of Historic Places.

Exempts proposed projects on existing residential properties from historic preservation review if the property is over fifty years old but NOT registered on the Hawaii Register of Historic Places.

Exempts proposed projects in "nominally sensitive areas" (areas with low density of historic, cultural, or archaeological resources, or substantially disturbed by previous ground-disturbing work) from historic preservation review requirements.

Maintains historic preservation review requirements for single-family detached dwelling units and townhouses that are over fifty years old if they are listed on either register, nominated for inclusion, or located in a historic district.

Takes effect upon approval.
