Department of Education must assign school resource officers or registered guards to all department public schools and charter schools during hours when students are on campus

Officers and guards must be trained in mass-shooting response and de-escalation techniques

Number of officers/guards assigned to each school shall be determined based on campus size, student enrollment, and other student safety factors

Department shall prioritize hiring retirees from local police departments and law enforcement during the hiring process

General revenues appropriation provided for fiscal years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 to fund school resource officers and guards; department shall seek federal grants to offset costs
