SB 188 Summary

• Establishes a State Permitting Office within the Department of Transportation to review and issue permits for state building and infrastructure construction projects.

• Allows applicants to obtain a state permit in lieu of county building or infrastructure permits for work on state buildings, state roads and highways, and other state land construction.

• Requires the State Permitting Office to ensure applications satisfy the state building code, applicable county building codes, and other applicable construction codes before issuing permits.

• Provides that persons obtaining a state permit are not liable for failure to obtain county permits for the same work covered by the state permit.

• Appropriates unspecified general revenue funds for fiscal years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 to establish and operate the office, effective July 1, 2025.
