Establishes compensation for private-sector examiners who evaluate criminal defendants' fitness to proceed or penal responsibility at $2,000 per examination.

The $2,000 compensation includes examination, report drafting, consultation, preparation, testimony, and court attendance.

Shifts payment responsibility for private examiner compensation from the State to the judiciary.

Appropriates $975,000 for fiscal year 2025-2026 and $975,000 for fiscal year 2026-2027 to the judiciary to cover these examination costs.

Effective date is July 1, 2025.
