HI SB422

Authorizes the Department of Education to award high school diplomas to qualified persons who did not receive diplomas due to compulsory or voluntary induction into active armed service during World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War.

Extends eligibility to persons whose high school education was interrupted due to wartime practices (such as internment) during World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War.

Defines qualified persons as residents of Hawaii or the Territory of Hawaii who were inducted into armed service or whose education was interrupted between specific date ranges: December 1, 1941 – August 30, 1945; June 1, 1950 – July 31, 1953; or August 1, 1964 – January 31, 1973.

Requires applicants to submit information on department-prescribed forms establishing their eligibility for diploma award.

Takes effect July 1, 3000.
