S.B. 951 Summary

• Requires written reports of child abuse or neglect to include the military status of the child's parents or other persons responsible for the child's care, if known.

• Directs the Department of Human Services to inform the appropriate branch of the United States military when a report involves a family member who is an identifiable member of the military.

• Maintains existing provisions allowing the department to inform police departments and prosecutors of child abuse or neglect reports while protecting reporter confidentiality except by court order or consent.

• Takes effect upon approval, except the military notification requirement takes effect on July 1, 2025.
