Department of Transportation requested to conduct a study on feasibility and advisability of eliminating Hawaii's safety inspection requirements for motor carrier vehicles

Study to examine effectiveness of current inspections and whether oversight and enforcement costs are justified by inspection benefits

Research should consider that vehicle component failure accounts for a very small percentage of motor vehicle accidents, and that alcohol, speed, and distracted driving are leading causes of fatal traffic accidents in Hawaii

Department to submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the 2026 Regular Session
