S.C.R. No. 58 Summary

• Counties are urged to install a minimum set of accessible recreational playground equipment in each county park playground, including a wheelchair accessible swing set.

• All accessible playground equipment must comply with the 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design or successor guidelines.

• Counties must establish comprehensive maintenance plans including weekly or monthly inspections, preventive maintenance, cleaning and sanitation, accessibility assurance, emergency repairs, and community engagement.

• The Department of Education and Department of Accounting and General Services are requested to convene a working group with counties to inventory existing playgrounds, identify types of accessible equipment and associated costs, and provide recommendations for adding accessible equipment to state and county playgrounds.

• Certified copies of the resolution are to be transmitted to the Comptroller, Superintendent of Education, and each County Mayor and Council Chairperson.
