S.R. 182 Summary

• Department of the Attorney General is requested to establish a special intergovernmental task force to eradicate illegal gambling and drug activities in Hawaii.

• Task force membership includes the Attorney General (chair), Director of Law Enforcement, Director of Transportation, county police chiefs, planning directors, and representatives from federal agencies including the U.S. Attorney, Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Agency, and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

• Task force is requested to examine relevant issues, determine needed resources, and devise a coordinated action plan to address illegal gambling and drug activities that contribute to violence and sex trafficking.

• Task force must consider establishing a statewide program to identify and eliminate illegal gambling and drug houses, and community safe zones requiring gambling-related structures be located more than 10,000 feet from churches, schools, or residential areas.

• Task force must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2026 Regular Session convenes, and dissolves upon adjournment of that session.
