Department of Transportation is requested to conduct a study on eliminating Hawaii's safety inspection requirements for motor carrier vehicles

Study should examine feasibility and advisability of removing inspections, addressing concerns that current requirements are ineffective and inconsistently applied

Report findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, must be submitted to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the Regular Session of 2026

Study rationale notes that vehicle component failure causes very few motor vehicle accidents, while alcohol, speed, and distracted driving are leading causes of fatal traffic accidents in Hawaii
