Request that the County of Maui employ one full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) archaeologist to support historic preservation during the rebuilding of Lahaina following the August 2023 wildfires.

Archaeologist is requested to work with other entities involved in Lahaina's rebuilding to preserve the community's and State's history and culture.

Archaeologist is requested to implement federal and state historic preservation mandates and plan and manage historic preservation projects in rebuilding Lahaina.

Recognize that historic preservation supports cultural identity, economic recovery through tourism, environmental sustainability, social healing, education, and community cohesion, while ensuring legal compliance.

Direct transmission of a certified copy of the resolution to the Mayor of the County of Maui.
