Request each U.S. military branch in Hawaii to provide hurricane shelters capable of withstanding winds exceeding 200 miles-per-hour for all active and retired personnel and their families in the state.

Request each military branch to fund fortification of homes owned by active and retired military personnel that can be strengthened to withstand major hurricanes.

Note that Hawaii currently has only 32 refuge areas with capacity for 100,000 people, while approximately 200,000 people are expected to seek shelter during a category one hurricane.

Identify approximately 187,000 wooden homes in Hawaii vulnerable to damage or destruction in category one hurricanes, with many occupied by military families.

Transmit certified copies of the resolution to the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, Chief of Naval Operations, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, and Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard.
