Department of Education directed to collaborate with Department of Transportation, Safe Routes to School Advisory Committee, and County of Hawaii to conduct comprehensive inventory of bus stops on Hawaii Island used by school children

Inventory assessment must evaluate sidewalks and crosswalks, lighting and visibility, traffic patterns, proximity to high-speed roadways, shelter and seating availability, adequacy of current bus routes, and other student safety hazards

Department of Education must develop recommendations and propose strategies to enhance bus stop safety, including infrastructure improvements, traffic calming measures, additional bus routes, and community engagement initiatives

Department of Education required to submit findings and recommendations report with prioritized list of bus stops needing immediate safety improvements to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2026 Regular Session convening

Certified copies to be transmitted to the Governor, Board of Education Chairperson, Superintendent of Education, Transportation Director, Safe Routes to School Advisory Committee Chairperson, and County of Hawaii Mayor
