Homeschooled students in Hawaii would be eligible to participate in public high school extracurricular activities including athletics, academic competitions, music, drama, and clubs beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

Participation is limited to the public high school the student would otherwise attend based on their residential address, and enrolled students may be prioritized when capacity is limited.

Homeschooled students must meet the same requirements as enrolled students, including academic eligibility standards, vaccination and physical exam requirements, health insurance documentation, and compliance with codes of conduct and tryout procedures.

Parents must submit documentation of homeschool status (notice of intent and annual progress report) plus a signed liability waiver releasing the state and schools from liability except for gross negligence.

Ten states already have "equal access" laws requiring public schools to allow homeschooled students in extracurricular activities, and 18 additional states permit participation under certain conditions.
