HI HB1997

Authorizes individualized education programs (IEPs) and Section 504 plans for public school students with disabilities to include provisions for accommodations and supports during emergency situations and evacuations, if deemed appropriate by the student's IEP or 504 team.

Requires IEP and Section 504 plan teams to determine whether a student needs individualized emergency accommodations during the initial development of the student's plan.

Mandates the Department of Education provide guidance to public schools on supporting IEP and 504 teams in considering specific emergency accommodations, including for students with mobility impairments.

Excludes students with disabilities enrolled in nonpublic special education schools or programs from these requirements.

Takes effect July 1, 3000 (placeholder date).
