Named "Officer O's Crime Bill" in memory of Officer Suzanne O, this legislation establishes a mandatory minimum 20-year prison sentence without parole for class A felonies involving firearms possession by prohibited persons or unlawful conduct while carrying a firearm.

Elevates from class B to class A felony the penalty for possessing firearms or ammunition while being prosecuted for or convicted of a felony, crime of violence, firearms-related offense, or illegal drug distribution.

Changes from misdemeanor to class A felony the penalty for possessing firearms or ammunition while subject to a court restraining order or protective order prohibiting contact with, threatening, or physically abusing another person.

Upgrades from misdemeanor to class A felony the offense of carrying a firearm while under the influence of a controlled substance or while knowingly possessing any amount of methamphetamine.

Carrying a firearm while consuming or under the influence of alcohol remains a petty misdemeanor under the amended provisions.
