Hawaii Legislature urges U.S. Congress to pass H.R. 2687, the End Kidney Deaths Act, introduced April 7, 2025, which would provide refundable tax credits to individuals who donate a kidney to a stranger.

More than 5,000 Hawaii residents currently rely on dialysis, with hundreds dying annually, while nearly 95,000 Americans nationwide await kidney transplants.

The federal government spends approximately $50 billion annually on dialysis care, while each kidney transplant saves an estimated $500,000 compared to lifetime dialysis costs.

Expanding kidney transplantation access could save up to 10,000 lives annually and reduce federal healthcare spending by approximately $4 billion per year.

The resolution requests certified copies be sent to the President, congressional leadership, and Hawaii's congressional delegation urging their support.
