Hawaii recorded 129 traffic fatalities statewide in 2025 (the highest since 2007), including 38 pedestrian deaths.

Urges the Department of Transportation, Department of Education, and City and County of Honolulu to improve safety at the Meheʻula Parkway and Kuaoʻa Street crosswalk near Mililani ʻIke Elementary School.

Calls for installation of warning signage, speed bumps, a "STOP Here for Pedestrians" sign up to 50 feet before the crosswalk, and a solar-powered rapid flashing crosswalk sign.

Speed bumps can reduce vehicle speeds by 40%, leading to a 60% reduction in injury or death risk according to federal recommendations.

Copies of the resolution would be sent to the Director of Transportation, Superintendent of Education, Board of Education Chair, Honolulu Mayor, and City Councilmember for District 8.
