Requests the Department of Land and Natural Resources and Department of Education to establish a formal, long-term collaborative program to expand and equitably distribute tree-canopy coverage across Hawaii public schools statewide.

Only 21% of elementary schools currently meet the recommended 30% tree-canopy coverage needed for adequate shade and cooling, with Title I schools and lower-income communities having less coverage and higher heat exposure.

Builds on successful 2024-2025 pilot partnerships including the Shade Trees for Schools initiative and Fruit Trees for Schools program, which were limited to short-term funding opportunities.

Requests the program incorporate long-term tree maintenance planning and appropriate species selection to ensure lasting climate, health, and educational benefits for students.

Supports creation of staff positions to implement and sustain the collaborative program, with 29 existing agricultural or natural-resource programs on DOE campuses available for student educational opportunities in tree propagation and care.
