The Working Group was established by H.C.R. No. 108 (2023) to develop solutions preventing inappropriate appropriation of Native Hawaiian intellectual property, with an original deadline of 40 days before the 2025 Regular Session

Working Group membership includes the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation, Ka Huli Ao Center for Excellence in Native Hawaiian Law, and Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, among other organizations

Extension is needed to conduct culturally appropriate community consultations that reflect Native Hawaiian community aspirations and concerns
