Hawaii House Resolution urging all four counties (Honolulu, Hawai'i, Kaua'i, and Maui) to establish, strengthen, or expand historic preservation functions within county government to complement state-level efforts.

Counties are encouraged to create historic preservation offices, commissions, advisory boards, or designated staff within planning or cultural resource departments to coordinate activities and review impacts on historic and cultural resources.

The resolution aims to provide backup protection for Hawai'i's historic buildings, archaeological sites, burial sites, cultural landscapes, and traditional cultural properties in case state-level protections or administrative capacity are reduced.

Counties are encouraged to develop local policies, inventories, and procedures to identify, evaluate, and protect historic and cultural resources consistent with state and federal preservation laws.

Certified copies of the resolution will be transmitted to the Governor, Board of Land and Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation Division, and the mayors and council chairs of all four counties.
