Hawaii House of Representatives endorses Waikiki's recognition as a World Surfing Reserve through the Save the Waves Coalition program, which identifies and preserves outstanding global surf zones.

Waikiki is recognized as the birthplace of surfing, where Native Hawaiian surfers including Duke Kahanamoku helped spread the sport worldwide, making it culturally and historically significant.

The area features more than a dozen popular surf breaks suitable for all skill levels and hosts multiple annual surf competitions, while also supporting protected species including Green Sea Turtles and endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals.

Waikiki generates millions of dollars in state GDP annually as Hawaii's largest tourist destination, with surfing serving as a primary attraction, demonstrating the economic importance of environmental protection.

Certified copies of the resolution will be transmitted to the Board of Land and Natural Resources Chairperson, Honolulu Mayor, and Waikiki Beach Special Improvement District Association Board of Directors.
