Animal control officers, law enforcement officers, and firefighters may enter unattended vehicles to rescue pet animals endangered by extreme temperatures, with immunity from criminal and civil liability

Private citizens may also rescue endangered pet animals from unattended vehicles if they first try to locate the owner, verify the vehicle is locked, have reasonable belief the animal faces imminent danger, call 911, use only necessary force, and remain with the animal until responders arrive

Rescuers must leave written notice with contact information and deliver the animal to a veterinary hospital or animal clinic for health screening and treatment

Pet owners may only retrieve their rescued animals after paying all charges for maintenance, care, medical treatment, and impoundment
