Expands jury duty exemptions to include actively practicing advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants employed in federally qualified health centers, adding them to the existing exemption for physicians and dentists under Hawaii Revised Statutes section 612-6.

Advanced practice registered nurses in Hawaii have full practice authority and provide primary and specialist care comparable in outcomes to physician care, with many operating freestanding practices under their own professional corporations.

Removing these healthcare providers from daily practice for jury service would deprive patients of needed healthcare services and create financial hardship for practitioners responsible for overhead costs.

The exemption is voluntary and does not preclude these healthcare professionals from serving on a jury if they choose to do so.

Takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
