References House Bill No. 2145 (Regular Session 2026), which would mandate coverage by health insurers, mutual benefit societies, and health maintenance organizations for policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2027

Proton beam therapy delivers radiation with greater precision than traditional radiation therapy, reducing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues and potentially lowering treatment-related side effects

Current commercial health insurance coverage for proton beam therapy in Hawaii is inconsistent and may be subject to restrictive clinical criteria

Auditor's report with findings and recommendations must be submitted no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2027
